The Gorilla and Little Man

I was practicing some lighting and thought I would give my children a break from helping me test so I used my trusted stuffed gorilla to test. I always try to test lighting techniques that I think will work well with certain studio or location shoots. This helps to see what the light will be like and also to be prepared for any other situation shoot wise that may come about. Preparing is the key to a smooth and very confident shoot. It helps the client relax when they see that you know what you are doing. It makes you as the photographer relax which is very important to the whole process. Later that day my son decided that he wanted to help for "free". It makes it fun for my children when I tell them they are my working models and pay them in something little that they like. This time my dear son said he wanted to help for free. What a doll. Here are a few images from the testing. Enjoy and always practice what you love:)

The Color Blue

From red to blue, why? Just like when I changed to a completely red blog it was the meaning behind the color. Red, bold, passionate, strong. This is how I feel about the photography I do. Now the change to blue. The color blue has so many great meaning. Some of which are inspiration, sincerity. Blue is a calming color, and is said to project confidence and strength. All once again things that I believe are important to my photography to better myself and give the best to clients. I hope you enjoy the color and the contents of the blog as much as I will. 2010 ENDED WITH A WEDDING

The end of 2010 was great. I photographed Saharah and Bobby's wedding. It was a beautiful intimate affair. The location was lovely both inside and out. Thank you both, it is always a honor. Here are a few samples. Enjoy!

It's 2010 and it starts with Deja

I enjoy taking images of children. It can be very interesting especially when they are infants and toddlers. Having two children of my own and having taken loads of pictures of them you come to know that the attention level goes as soon as you set all of your equipment up. Posing a 2 year old is not an options for most, but that is the fun part, not posing. You get the best shots of children when they are in play just being themselves. Give them a toy, a blanket something that they are comfortable with and you are having a fun time with them and not a screaming party. Always make it fun, set it up so that you, the family, and the child feel comfortable. You want smiles from all and just a great experience had by all. These images that I will share with you are from a session with Deja. She is a beautiful 2 year old who loves her lollipops. The session reminded me of taking pictures with my children. We all had a great time as you can see by the images. Enjoy everyone.

The Cornwell Christmas Card Session

The Cornwell family were one of the families that participated in the Holiday Card Event. The session took place at the Old Katy heritage center. It was fun and the location was perfect for the family. This location had homes that were built in the late 1800's, a train, and a park. This was a photographer's dream location, I loved it and will go again. Looking forward to my next session to share. Have a great week everyone.

BOKEH MADNESS

Ah, bokeh, I love it. Bokeh comes from a Japanese word meaning out of focus or blur to make it simple. It's not hard to do at all and almost all lense produce some sort of bokeh. The best way that I have found is to use a prime lens with a large aperture. You can completely blur the image to show nothing but bokeh or you can have the foreground in focus and the bokeh in the background. I have two examples here of each. There are also ways to make diy cover to shape the bokeh on the lens. Lensbaby, is a much easier way to achive this. They have a kit with shapes and blanks for you to make your own. I have a Lensbaby and like the effect, but not as much as using my prime lenses. I suggest going out and trying to produce the bokeh effect. I know I love doing it and you will as well.

On October 19, 2010, I had the privilege of being part of Katherine and Gerrin's wedding day. I was able to capture through photography the joy and beauty of their day. The beauty of the bride was amazing. All that attended radiated with warmth and joy. I thank you both for allowing me to document your day and to witness a fun, relaxed, loving environment. Film Black and White Fine Art

I love my film cameras. I would actually prefer to use film and not digital. I can only speak for myself, but I tend to think more with the image and the light due to not being able to see the image to delete or tweak at that moment. It's film once you open the shutter the image is permanent on that film and there is no delete button on film. You have to see it in your mind and keep it there until your film is developed. Don't get me wrong, digital is convenient. It allows for you to give the client a glance at what you just shot. You are able to get images the same day. I love my digital cameras, but I will never stop using film. Check out the Film is Not Dead group on Facebook. If you have never held a film camera or shot with one borrow one and just go blind for a day. I promise you it will be a great challenge. Here are some film images with Kodak Portra 160NC, Kodak Ektar 100, and Ilford XP2 Super 400 black and white film. Taken with a Canon EOS 3 with a 135mm 2.8f soft focus lens.

Why so Red.

As you can see there have been major changes to my blog. It is red, really red. I decided on the color red due to the meaning mainly. Red is consider by many to be bold, passionate, strong. These are some of the great qualities that represent the color red and that is what I want my photography to represent for me and my clients. I am committed to updating and sharing things on this blog on a regular basis. I want all to enjoy this very red blog and all that it represents as much as I will. Thank you.

I recently came across some great photoshop actions by JHP Actions via twitter @jhpactions. You can tell these actions are made by a photographer. They are very easy to use and adjust to your image.
